Day 1057 | It’s a Chair, man.
For anyone that follows us, you will know this year has been filled with lots of real estate but also a bunch of junior basketball. Hudson has found something that he truly loves and we’ve chosen to back him in 100%. I’ve been coaching his school team, taking him to courts on the weekend, watching endless NBA on the TV and even more real local basketball in person. We have soaked it up and I’ll be honest, I love that it’s his thing.
Before March 2021 I hadn’t played a game of basketball in my life. I still haven’t. But coaching these kids and being around it so much has given me something to look forward to in our down-time outside of work. Something to talk about constantly, whether it be shooting in the backyard for hours or Hudson trying to do figure 8s in the kitchen while Simone’s trying to cook. It takes over a little part of your life.
Through a chance meeting a few months ago, my involvement in basketball has increased and I found myself deep down the rabbit hole. So after a whirlwind romance of being approached to maybe ‘consider’ having a position in basketball, it’s borderline madness that I’ve recently accepted the role as Chairman of the North West Thunder. I’ve already enjoyed my early involvement in the organisation and will make sure that I can add value to what they are doing on the NBL1 scene.
The board have embraced me with open arms, Nick Haywood and his support team are genuinely great humans and the players I’ve spent time with are the kind of people you want to have a beer with.
Hudson was pumped. Told me he would train so hard that he would be able to play for Thunder one day. Simone told me she thought I was ‘made’ for a role like this. But the best bit is that it’s something we get to share and embrace, as a family.
Bring on season 2022. And go Thunder!
