Day 1031 | When You Love Someone

On the weekend, we went over to Burnie for a change of scenery and to find our kid some new shoes. A regular trip that we make for shopping, sometimes to Ulverstone, sometimes to Launceston and on the odd occasion even Hobart. No matter where we are, there’s a little human next to us, holding our hands while we wander.

Now I know Hudson loves me to pieces. If nothing else in the world, I know that for certain. He tells me often how I’m the ‘best dad ever’ and while I know he’s biased, I take the compliment happily. Simone is comfortably his favourite though, and I’m cool with that. But on Saturday for the first time in a long time, he was quite content to walk in front of us instead of holding her hand or riding on my back. At 7 years old I knew it was coming but I’d hoped for a little longer he was still going to be my little guy that needed me.

But then somehow this happened. He took my spot! He spent the majority of our time over there walking with Simone with an arm wrapped around her. I walked behind to begin with, then walked along side them and eventually I could’ve walked on the moon and it wouldn’t have mattered. They were two peas in a pod.

When we were reading books on Sunday night I asked him why he did it, and showed him this picture that I sneakily took. His response got me right in the feels.

“Isn’t that what boys do to girls they love?”

I think we are doing ok at this parenting thing.
