Day 1406 | The Other Foot

In the last 4 weeks I’ve come to understand how real estate isn’t all fun and games. I talk a heap about how much I enjoy my job (and I really do) but for the first time in a long time we had to get our own personal house ready for sale…. And it was far from easy.

Now, a lot of the time in my job we deal with people that are selling in order to buy their next house. They are living in something that is actively on the market and these people have to work around children, pets, day to day life and unexpected curveballs all while being constantly ready for inspections. It’s a challenge at best and while I’m always super grateful of the work they put in to allow us to do our thing, I never quite got the entire picture of how hard it can be.

Luckily for us, we were able to move into our new place and spend a couple of weeks cleaning and getting our old house ready for market while it was empty. No golden retriever leaving fur everywhere, no crumbs from one end of the house to the other from an 8 year old boy and no 46 loads of washing to do like normal. But even the luxury of having this extra time didn’t feel enough. We cleaned, we painted, we had trades coming and going and almost perfect conditions for photos, and yet the stress levels have been at maximum. It’s given me a whole new appreciation for people that come to market in any situation these days, especially those balancing living in, and selling the same house.

So today our house went on the market, a place we’ve called home for 13 years and a house filled with a bunch of awesome memories. I hope someone loves it as much as we have, and maybe one day they’ll have a kid swinging from the exposed beams with a giant smile on their face…. just like this guy.
